Psychological First Aid (Course Code RAHE 01)

  • Duration: One day
  • Background: Disasters and emergencies take communities and individuals by surprise. It is natural for human beings to reach out to their fellow human beings who are suffering in such instances, however, it is essential that such responders are equipped with Psychological First Aid (PFA). This rapid orientation training, based on the World Health Organization training manual on PFA, covers psychological first aid which involves humane, supportive and practical help to fellow human beings suffering serious crisis events. The training is aimed at people in a position to help others who have experienced an extremely distressing event. While providing the essentials of the principles of PFA, the emphasis of this training is on practice.
  • Target Audience: Similar to First Aid, PFA is a skill that everybody should have. This training will especially be useful for field staff and volunteers representing the non-profit sector and corporate sector.
  • Objectives: 1. Introduce to the need for Psychological First Aid in the spectrum of psychosocial interventions in disasters 2. Introduce to the basic concepts of Psychological First Aid.

Emergency Preparedness (Course Code RACR01)

  • Background: Emergencies and disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Each disaster has lasting effects, both to people and property. Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. But are we prepared? It is essential that we as communities, families, and individuals are ready to face disasters and emergencies. This training will introduce you to three key emergency preparedness measures as well as methods to disseminate above trainings at community, family and individual levels.
  • Target Audience: Emergency Preparedness training is essential for everybody. It can especially be useful for field staff and volunteers representing the non-profit sector and the corporate sector.
  • Objectives: 1. Introduce to the need for emergency preparedness at the community level. 2. Introduce three key messages for emergency preparedness. 3. Discuss how above key messages could be taken to the community.

Principals of Humanitarian Practice and Sphere Standards (Course Code: RACR 02)

  • Background: Communities and people affected by crisis need to be placed at the center of humanitarian action and if the Sphere standards are applied in practice, they will improve the quality and effectiveness of the assistance provided and facilitate greater accountability to communities and people. However, disaster after disaster, it has been evident that respect and consideration given to principals of humanitarian practice and sphere standards have not been respected. This training is aimed at providing a rapid orientation to humanitarian practice and sphere standards.
  • Target Audience: Emergency Preparedness training is essential for everybody. It can especially be useful for field staff and volunteers representing the non-profit sector and the corporate sector.
  • Objectives: 1. Introduce to the humanitarian principles. 2. Describe Sphere standards and their use in disaster response. 3. Discuss how humanitarian principles and Sphere standards could be used in disaster response.

 Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (Course Code: RACR 03)

  • Background Community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) is a process in which at-risk communities are actively engaged in all steps from risk identification to monitoring and evaluation so that their vulnerabilities are reduced and capacities are enhanced. CBDRM is an essential training that all humanitarian and development practitioners should receive. This training provides an extensive understanding of the theory and practice of CBDRM.
  • Target Audience: Participants will be from the government, non-profit as well as the corporate sector who are involved in disaster risk management initiatives at the community level.
  • Objectives: 1. Introduce the role of CBDRM in the disaster risk management context. 2. Describe the steps of CBDRM. 3. Describe tools to engage communities at each step of the CBDRM process. 4. Share experiences for implementation of CBDRM at the community level.

Basic First Aid (Course Code: RAHE 02)

  • Background Accidents do occur despite our steps to prevent them. At these times, you are called upon to act quickly and perform first aid on a victim, whether it’s a minor or very serious injury. The benefits of investing time on a first aid training come handy at these times. This is a basic First Aid training will be your foundation as a responsible first aider. It will provide you with the theoretical and practical aspects of first aid.
  • Target Audience: Target Audience: First Aid training will benefit everyone, from child to elderly. The participants will be from the corporate sector, industry, educational sector and non-profit sector who may need to get a basic understanding and skills on first aid.
  • Objectives: Objectives: 1. Introduce to the basic concepts of first aid. 2. Introduce First Aid for common emergency conditions faced in everyday life. 3. Provide opportunities to practice essential first aid skills.

Community Resilience Training (Course Code: RACR 04)

  • Background: Community resilience is a measure of the sustained ability of a community to utilize available resources to respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse situations. It is a trending concept that is in high demand in the development field. However, training which provides step by step guide on promoting community resilience is rare. This is an exceptional training that will provide you with the necessary skill set to promote community resilience.
  • Target Audience: Anybody who is interested in promoting community resilience is invited for this training. The staff of non-profits, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations often make the majority of such trainings.
  • Objectives: 1. Introduce to the concepts of community resilience. 2. Introduce steps to promoting community resilience. 3. Discuss case studies for promoting community resilience.
